Tossut Léttlopista & ohje

Joululahjojen valmistuttua inspiroiduin huovutettujen tossujen tekemisestä niin, että tekaisin Léttlopista seitsemät tossut samalla (omalla) ohjeellani. Neljät on jo huovutettu, kolme paria odottaa vielä muovipussien harsimista ja huovutusta.


Tässä muistiinpanoni koon 39 Léttlopi-tossuihin.

Tarvikkeet: 
2 kerää Léttlopia
Sukkapuikot numero 5

Aloitus:
Luo kahdeksikkoaloituksella 48 silmukkaa (näin tossuista tulee saumattomat)
Jaa silmukat 4 puikolle (12 silmukkaa joka puikolla)
1. kierros: neulo kaikki 48 silmukkaa oikein, käännä työ
2. kierros: neulo 2 oikein, 44 nurin, 2 oikein, käännä työ
Toista kierroksia 1 ja 2 vielä 20 kertaa, yhdistä pyöröneuleeksi
Neulo pyöröneuleena oikein 25 kierrosta, aloita kärkikavennukset

Kärkikavennukset:
Neulo 2 yhteen joka puikon alussa (11 silmukkaa joka puikolla)
Neulo 2 kerrosta oikein
Neulo 2 yhteen joka puikon alussa (10 silmukkaa joka puikolla)
Neulo 1 kerros oikein
Neulo 2 yhteen joka puikon alussa (9 silmukkaa joka puikolla)
Neulo 1 kerros oikein
Neulo 2 yhteen joka puikon alussa (8 silmukkaa joka puikolla)
Neulo 2 yhteen joka puikon alussa, kunnes jokaisella puikolla on 2 silmukkaa
Vedä lanka silmukoiden läpi, kiristä

Viimeistely: 
Kiristä kahdeksikkoaloituksen silmukat
Päättele langanpäät
Harsi muovipussit tossujen sisäpuolille - käytä lankaa, joka erottuu villalangasta
Huovuta tossut pesukoneessa 40 asteessa pitkällä ohjelmalla. Mikäli tossut eivät ole huopuneet tarpeeksi, toista pesuohjelma.
Poista muovipussit ja venytä tossut jalkaan sopiviksi.

Kirjoneulelapaset kaksinkertaisesta Lett-Lopista - Stranded double Lett-lopi mittens

Olen täällä - ja kudon vimmatusti! Joulua edeltävä tikkuamisten salailu näköjään jäi päälle, luvassa onkin paljon rästiin jääneitä postauksia. Tässä mielettömän lämpimät siksakkilapaset, jotka on neulottu kaksinkertaisesta Lett-Lopista kolmepuolosen puikoilla. Loin 40 silmukkaa, tein nirkkoreunan ja jatkoin kahdeksan silmukan siksak-kuviolla kaikilla 40 silmukalla. Peukalossa on 18 silmukkaa. Lopputulos on omaan käteeni hieman nafti, siskolle juuri sopiva :)

I am still here - and knitting! Somehow not posting all the pre-Christmas knitting turned into a longer silence. Hence there will be a lot of long-overdue posts coming. Now presenting, super-warm mittens knitted out of double Lett-Lopi. I cast on 40 stitches, made a picot edgning and continued with a 8-stitch zigzag pattern on all 40 stitches. The thumb has 18 stitches. The end result is a bit tight for my own hand, just perfect for my sister :)

Huovutetut Liekkilapaset / Felted Flame Mittens

Testailin, miltä näyttäisivät liekit huovutettuina. Ei hassumpi lopputulos! Käytin oranssia, keltaista ja punaista Ístexin hahtuvalankaa eli plötulopia ja ruskeanmustaa Thingborgin lopia. Nämä kaksi hahtuvalankaa huovuttuvat eri tavalla. Thingborglopi on hieman ohuempaa, se huovuttuu tiiviimmin ja lopputulos on karvaisempi kuin Ístexin plötulopi. Käytin puikkoja numero 4, ja lankaa meni yhteensä noin 110 grammaa.

I tested how felted flames would look like - not bad end result! I used orange, yellow and red plötulopi by Ístex and blackish brown unspun Icelandic by Thingborg. The two lopis felt differently - the Thingborg lopi is a bit thinner and felts more intensely, and the end result is a bit more hairy. I used about 110 grams of yarn with needles number 4.

Islantilainen kukkaneule lapselle / Bláklukka pullover

Kun tyttäreni selaili Védis Jónsdottirin Islantilaisia Neuleita-kirjaa, hän pyysi että tekisin hänelle Bláklukka-paidan vaaleanpunaisilla kukilla. Päätin neuloa paidan Taito Pirkanmaan Paksusta Pirkkalangasta, joka on tämänhetkinen lempilankani. Se on täyttä villaa, mutta pehmeää ja kutittamatonta ja sitä saa monissa upeissa väreissä. Se on aivan täydellinen lanka pikkutytön villapaitaan.

When my daughter browsed through Knitting with Icelandic Wool by Védis Jónsdottir, she asked me to knit her a Bláklukka pullover with pink flowers. I chose to knit the pullover with a fabulous Finnish yarn (my current favourite yarn), Paksu Pirkkalanka by Taito Pirkanmaa. It is 100% wool, yet soft and not at all itchy and it comes in numerous fabulous colours. Perfect for a little girl's pullover!

Paitaan kului yhteensä 200 grammaa lankaa (160g väriä 544 punajuuri, 20 g väriä 100 valkoinen, 10g väriä 3641 villiruusu ja 10g väriä 111 basilika). Käytin nelosen puikkoja, jolloin neuletiheyteni oli 19 silmukkaa (ohjeessa 18 lopille) eli käytin 2-3-vuotiaan ohjetta solakalle 3-vuotiaalle. Tein kuitenkin vartalokappaleen ja hihat muutaman sentin pidemmiksi. Ohjeessa alaosaan ja hihansuihin oli tehty neljä riviä helmineuletta, mutta se rullautui, joten tein nirkkoreunan.

I used altogether 200 grams of yarn (160 grams of colour 544 red purple, 20 grams of colour 100 white, 10 grams of colour 3641 pink and 10 grams of colour 111 green). I used needles number 4 throughout the pullover. My gauge was 19 stitches (instead of the 18 in the instructions for lopi) so I used the instructions for 2-3 year old for a skinny 3-year-old. I made the body and arms a couple of centimetres longer. Since the 4 rounds of seed stitch made the hem roll up, I made a picot edge (with provisional cast-on) to the hem and arms.

Paljon Huovutettuja Lapasia - A lot of Felted Mittens

Islannin-reissumme jälkeen innostuin neulomaan lapasia kaksinkertaiseta plötulopista. Marraskuun lopussa löysin yllättäen kahdeksat parit huovuttamattomia lapasia kaapista. Äitini avustuksella muovipussien harsiminen ja huovutuskin tulivat tehtyä ennen joulua - kiitos! Naisten lapasten (vaaleanpunainen, punainen ja tumma violetti) ohje oli sama kuin ennenkin, miesten lapasista tein suuremmat ja lasten lapasista pienemmät. Kaksiin lapasiin (vaalean lilat lasten lapaset, valko-pinkki-lilat naisten lapaset) tein intialaisen peukalokiilan, mikä näyttää sopivan näihin huovutettuihin lapasiin erittäin hyvin. Kuvasta tuli epäselvä, kiitos joulukuun harmauden ja kännykkäkameran.

After our trip to Iceland, I knitted, rather manically, mittens from double plötulopi. In the end of November I suddenly found eight pairs of unfelted mittens from a cupboard. With the help of my Mother, I managed to sew the plastic bags inside the mittens and felt the mittens before Christmas - thanks Mom! I used the same pattern as before for women's mittens (pink, red and dark purple), I made the dark blue men's mittens larger and children's mittens smaller. I made an Indian thumb gusset for two pairs (children's lilac, women's white-pink-lilac mittens). It seems to work well with felted mittens. The picture is a bit unclear, thanks to the greyness of December and mobile phone camera.

Nyt on lapaset! / This is what I call mittens!

Löysin lankakoria siivotessani pieniä nöttösiä Ístexin Lett-lopia. En tiennyt mitä niistä voisi tehdä, mutta poiskaan en halunnut heittää. Islantilaisia Neuleita -kirjaa selaillessani sain ahaa-elämyksen: niistä tulee Handtak-lapaset.

When organising my yarn stash, I found small skeins of Ístex Lett-lopi in several colours. I had no idea what to make out of them, but I did not want to bin them either. As I was browsing through the Knitting with Icelandic Wool book, I realised the Lett-lopi should turn into Handtak mittens.

Tein lapaset pääpiirteittäin ohjeiden mukaan, tosin tein sormiosankin kuviollisena, jotta se on lämmin. Langat riittivät melkein identtisiin lapasiin. Lankaa meni paljon, koska lapaset neulottiin kaksinkertaisella lopilla. Lopputuloksena hauskat ja muhkeat talvivanttuut! Täytyy sanoa, että en ole koskaan neulonut näin lämpimiä lapasia. Ne lähtevät huomenna postin mukana Ouluun - pitäisi olla tarpeeksi lämpimät talvipyöräilyynkin :) (Sivuhuomio: lapaset ovat samankokoiset, kuvakulma vääristää)

I roughly followed the instructions, altough I made the fingertip part in two colours to make it warm. The yarns were enough for almost identical mittens. I used a lot of yars, since the mittens were knitted with double lopi. The end result is a fun and thick pair of winter handwear! I must admit, I have never knitted mittens this warm. I will post them to Oulu (in Northern Finland) tomorrow - they should be warm enough to be used when cycling in the winter, too! (Side remark: the mittens are the same size, the angle of the picture makes them look different)

Taas Islannissa / Iceland Revisited

Olen Islanti-fani, ja Islanti näkyy paljon blogissani sekä neuleissani. Kun mietimme lomasuunnitelmia, ehdotan ensimmäiseksi matkaa Islantiin. Nyt sain miehenkin ylipuhuttua, joten vietimme vajaat kaksi viikkoa Islannissa elokuun lopussa. Sisällytin matkasuunnitelmaan muutaman käsitöihin liittyvän paikan, kuten Álafossin villakaupan (Ístexin tehtaanmyymälä) Mossfellsbaerissä, Thingborgin käsityöosuuskunnan kaupan Selfossissa, Islannin käsinneulojien yhdistyksen kaupan(Handknitting Association of Iceland) Reykjavíkissä ja Haáfellin islanninvuohitilan Borgarnesin lähellä.

It might be clear from my postings and knitting that I am an Iceland fan :) So when it comes to planning of holidays, my first answer is "Iceland". Now I managed to sell the idea to husby, so we spent some twelve days in Iceland in the end of August. I included a couple of knitting-related places in the itinary, such as the Álafoss wool store (Ístex factory store) at Mossfellsbaer, Thingborg cooperative wool shop at Selfoss, the Handknitting Association of Iceland shop at Reykjavík and the Icelandic goat farm of Haáfell near Borgarnes.

Olemme käyneet aiemminkin Haáfellin vuohitilalla - se on loistava vierailukohde! Nyt meillä oli mukanamme parivuotias, joka ihastui kuvassa näkyvään Totti-kiliin. Meidän olisi kuulemma pitänyt ottaa Totti mukaan kotiin. Valitettavasti vuohitila on vaikeissa talousvaikeuksissa. Tilan konkurssin (ja islanninvuohien sukupuuton) ehkäisemiseksi on menossa joukkorahoituskeräys.

We have visited the Haáfell goat farm before and loved it. This time, we had a two-year-old with us, who fell in love with this little goat, Totti. Apparently Totti should have come home with us. Unfortunately the goat farm is in quite deep financial trouble. There is a crowd funding initiative to keep it afloat - and to retain the population of the Icelandic goat.

Mykistyin taas villan ja langan määrästä Álafossin villakaupassa. Tuijotin lankoja noin kymmenen minuuttia ennen kuin osasin päättää mitä halusin. Ostin *vain* 3,8 kiloa plötulopia eli hahtuvalankaa. :)

Again I got astounded at the amount of yarn at Álafoss. I stared at the yarn for some ten minutes before I was able to figure out what I actually wanted. I *only* got 3,8 kilos of plötulolpi (unspun Icelandic) :)

Lankapommitus näyttää olevan suosittu harrastus Islannissa - nämä olivat suosikkini. Aita löytyy Stokkseyristä, pöytä ja tuoli Keflavíkista.

It seems to be quite popular to yarn bomb in Iceland - these ones were my particular favourites. The fence is in Stokkseyri and the table and chair in Keflavík.

Gudrún Bjarnadóttirin luonnoväreillä värjätty Hespa-lanka oli reissun uusi tuttavuus. Gudrun on islannin maatalousyliopiston kasviopin opettaja, joka järjestää myös kotonaan Borgarnesin lähellä kasvivärjäyskursseja tilauksesta. Se kurssi on jo toivelistalla seuraavalle Islannin-matkalle :) ´

During the trip I saw in a few places selling the fantastic naturally dyed Hespa yarn by Gudrún Bjarnadóttir. Gudrun teaches botany at the Icelandic Agricultural University, and she sometimes also organises on-demand courses on natural dyeing. I would so love to learn from her!

Huovutetut Lapaset Hahtuvalangasta / Felted Lopi Mittens

Vielä löytyy kuvia joulunalusajan neulomisista :) Tässä huovutetut lapaset, jotka neuloin kaksinkertaisesta plötulopista eli islantilaisesta hahtuvalangasta. Väri on aivan upea, tumma violetti (1428). Tein lapaset samalla ohjeella kuin ennenkin.

I still keep finding pictures of the things I knitted before Christmas :) May I present felted mittens which I knitted from double-strand plötulopi (aka unspun Icelandic). The colour is dashing, dark purple (1428). I made the mittens with the same instructions as before.

Knittingpatterns.is suomeksi

Knittingpatterns.is, ilmainen web-sovellus islantilaisneuleen suunnitteluun, on nyt myös suomenkielisenä!

Suunnittelin Gimmstein-villatakkini juuri knittingpatterns.is -sovelluksella. Se oli helppoa, koska omaa kuviota voi suunnitella klikkailemalla ja ohjeet voi tulostaa PDF-muodossa. Myös värivaihtoehtojen testailu on helppoa ohjelmalla, koska muutokset näkyvät heti ruudulla olevassa mallipaidassa.

Knittingpatterns.is -sovelluksen isä on islantilainen Sverrir Pétursson, joka alunperin kirjoitti tämän neulesuunnitteluohjelman vaimonsa käyttöön. Nyt sivusto toimii kymmenellä kielellä - mukaanlukien siis suomi, ja se on ollut esillä Islannin käsityömessuilla 2013 sekä islantilaisessa mediassa (englanniksi). Tunisian crocheted oven mitt / Koukuttu patakinnas

My secret santa sent me Tunisian crochet hooks a couple of weeks ago, and this oven mitt is my first attempt at Tunisian crocheting. Quite much fun! I used the leftover Álafosslopi yarns from my cardigan, so the oven mitt is made of 100% wool. The texture is thick and solid: looks like the mitt will be able to take high temperatures.

Twisted sock

These socks look harder to make than they actually are. I really enjoyed knitting these ones. The way to make the heel was a novelty for me - it looks great!

Another week, another Icelandic cardigan

I really love this pattern called Keđja ('chain'), designed by Védís Jónsdóttir. The original design in Ístex pattern book 28 (page 2) is for a tunic, but I decided to make a cardigan instead. I made the calculations myself as I was using a thinner yarn.

Am so happy with the ready cardigan! In my own opinion, this is one of the prettiest things I have ever knitted. It was a fast knit, took me from Friday to Wednesday :D

Icelandic cardigan: days 6-7

Done! Now only finishing and that's it :)

This was a very agile knitting project, meaning that the plans got modified with reality and accumulated knowledge. The pattern found its form as I knitted along, and in the end I decided against the hood. I decided to call the cadigan "gimsteinn", which means gemstone in Icelandic. I will write the pattern up and post it later, together with a picture of the fully finalised cardigan.

Icelandic cardigan: day 5

So I got to the yoke! Now this feels like real knitting - no more bling speed-knitting but paying attention to the yarn and the pattern. I calculated that I made 20% of the yoke pattern yesterday, 80% more to go. I hope the white yarn is enough for a hood, though. We'll see!

Icelandic cardigan: days 3-4

The bottom part of the body is now done: afterwards it always feels like finishing a marathon. The true Icelanders knit cardigans also in a round so as to avoid purling, especially in the pattern. I am, however, not really comfortable with sewing and cutting the knitted pullover in the front (in case I want to make changes later on) so I opted for purling.

The sleeves are coming a bit slower than usually since I am making them simultaneously with circular needles. I have to do it this way as it seems that this city does not have double-pointed sock needles of size 5.5! On Saturday I went to four handicraft shops with no luck, so I decided to do with circulars. Some ten more centimetres for the sleeves and I hope to get to the yoke pattern by tonight.



In general, knitting with Álafosslopi is fun because it feels so real. There are little pieces of hay, thorns and whatnot in the yarn: it is almost possible to imagine where the sheep had rambled.

Icelandic cardigan: days 1-2

I finally got the time and inspiration to start the Icelandic lopi cardigan for which I bought yarn in August at the Ístex factory outlet. The yarn is bulky Álafosslopi, and I have seven skeins of white (0051), one of burgundy (9210),  one of orchid (0159) and one of dark soft purple (0163).



The pattern will be something like Var by Védís Jónsdóttir from Istex Lopi book number 29. I will make some modifications, though. For instance, I already decided not to make a pattern on the body, only on the yoke, sleeves and hood.

This is where I got to after two days of work. Mind you, I spent the entire first morning on deciding on which pattern to make (i.e browsing Ravelry and Lopi pattern books) and on and doing the measurements and calculations. I used the free Icelandic knittingpatters.is programme to calculate the required number of stitches.

Iceland - Reykjavik & Mossfellsbaer

As a true knitaholic, I had to include yarn-related places to visit on our trip to Iceland. Some of the woolly sights were accidental, though, such as these yarn-bombed trees in Reykjavík.






We visited the mecca of Lopi, aka Ístex factory outlet at Álafoss (Mossfellsbaer, right outside of Reykjavík) twice. First time to get some yarn, second time to re-stock. We did, after all, drive around Western Iceland for a week, which means that by the time we returned to the capital area, I had finished a large proportion of the yarn bought on the first visit :D





I am sure that the Bentley knitting machine is placed in the corner of the shop to keep the husbands happy with engineering miracles
