Huovutetut tossut: koukkuaminen vs virkkaus / Felted slippers - tunisian crochet vs crochet

Testasin, käyttäytyyko koukuttu pinta samoin pesukonehuovutuksessa kuin virkattu pinta. Lankaa kului koukuttuihin tossuihin reilut kaksi kerää ja kaksinkertaisella langalla virkattuihin melkein 4 kerää.

Tässä Novita Purosta tehdyt samankokoiset töppöset ennen huovutusta. Käytin koukuttuihin tossuihin koukkuamiskoukkua numero 6 ja virkattuihin tossuihin virkkuukoukkua numero 8.

I tested whether tunisian crocheted material felt the same way in the washing machine as crocheted material. The slippers made by tunisian crocheting needed a bit more than two skeins of yarn and the crocheted ones (with double yarn) needed almost four skeins.

I made two pairs of slippers of the same size from Novita Puro yarn. I used tunisian crochet hook number 6 for the tunisian crocheted ones and crochet hook number 8 for the crocheted ones.

Koukuttu pinta huovuttui todella paljon enemmän kuin virkattu: pinta on huopaisempi ja materiaali meni kokoon reilusti. Syynä lienee se, että koukutut tossut on tehty periaatteessa yhdellä langalla, vaikka tekniikka kahta lankaa käyttääkin, kun taas virkatut tossut on kaksinkertaisesta langasta.

The tunisian crocheted material felted much more than crocheted material: the surface is more felt-y and the slippers reduced in size a lot. The reason behind this might be that the tunisian crocheted slippers are actually from one-ply yearn (even though the technique uses two yarns) whereas the crocheted slippers were made from double yarn.

Tunisian crocheted oven mitt / Koukuttu patakinnas

My secret santa sent me Tunisian crochet hooks a couple of weeks ago, and this oven mitt is my first attempt at Tunisian crocheting. Quite much fun! I used the leftover Álafosslopi yarns from my cardigan, so the oven mitt is made of 100% wool. The texture is thick and solid: looks like the mitt will be able to take high temperatures.

Busting the yarn stash - funky socks

It is about time to use up the Novita 7 Veljestä stash that I have. Colourful & happy-patterned socks are perfect for this :) I am still far away from really busting the stash but this is a good start.

As I was knitting these socks, I used a couple of new techniques I have recently learned, namely Tunisian crochet and the French round heel. I used Tunisian crocheting in the heel flap and all the way through the heel reductions. The heel becomes quite rigid, but it should last even heavy use.
