Rukki kuntoon ja kehräämään! / Fix your spinning wheel and start spinning!

Kauan odotettu Helsingin Työväenopiston kehräyskurssi pidettiin viikonloppuna Kaapelitehtaalla. Paikalla oli yksi toistaan komeampia perinnerukkeja (suurin osa kiikkalaisia), hienoimpana tietenkin oma vihreä Fiina-rukkini, jonka sain Etelä-Pohjanmaalta kesällä. Rukkien kunto tarkistettiin, opettelimme korjaamaan pikkuvikoja sekä virittämään rukin työtä varten - sekä tietenkin kehräämään! Vaikka aluksi luokkahuoneessa kuului vaitonaisia ärräpäitä, kurssin loppuun mennessä huoneesta kuului tasaista rukin surinaa (ja Fiinan polkimen natinaa) :)

The Helsinki Workers' Institute spinning course I have been waiting for was held last weekend at the Helsinki Cable Factory. There were about a dozen of traditional spinning wheels, one prettier than the other. The fairest one of them all was, of course, my green spinning wheel called Fiina. I got her this summer from Southern Ostrobothnia. First we learned to check that the shape of the spinning wheels and to fix small problems. Then we learned to set the spinning wheel up for work - and to spin! Even though at first there were some mumbled swearwords to be heard, by the end of the course all one could hear was steady purr of the spinning wheels (and the squeaking of Fiina's pedal) :)
